All of our exhibits start out with a successful run at the San Luis Obispo Children's Museum in California. Each rental or purchase comes complete with educational programming. Spark the imaginations at your Museum by adding an exciting new exhibit. Inspire enthusiasm for unique hands on learning.
Our first exhibit is "A Native American Experience - a Peek into the Past".
The seed for this Plains Native American exhibit was planted years ago as my family visited the pumpkin patch every fall. My kids loved to play in the Tipi!
~Fast forward to the teenage years.
One of my sons, Nicholas, chose to live in a tipi on our property and called it his bedroom for the next five years. Kids love to experience tipis. Their imaginations and learning opportunities abound.
In my research for this Plains Native American exhibit, I was made thoroughly aware of the sensitivity of representing Native Americans correctly. I have added some do's and dont's & facts and attitudes to the informational binders that come with the exhibit. I strongly recommend that staff members discuss this information prior to opening the exhibit to the public.
In this Plains Native American exhibit, "A Native American Experience - a Peak into the Past," kids are able to "cook" a dinner of fresh caught trout simmered with wild sage and parsley in a buffalo gut cooking sack hanging over the "fire" in the tipi. They can dance and play music to their hearts delight, keeping a steady beat with the elk skin drum or deerhoof rattle.
They can grind corn on the large grinding rock, or settle down on the animal skin rug to play games of the Native American past, or choose a great story from the stack of books; all while wearing clothing replicated from museum artifacts.
There are arrowheads to look at and a baby in a papoose. Maybe they'll get to sample some "buffalo jerky" followed by a large drink of cold water in a buffalo horn cup.

“Children are our future.” ~ We’ve all heard that one and it’s so true. “Bees are our future” ~Now that’s a new statement, but also true!
In this exhibit, children will watch short educational videos about the life of bees. They can study our fascinating plexiglass covered “observation hive” set up with a looped video of a bee hive in action.
Dressed like honey bees, children can “fly” to the garden of 5 foot tall flowers, gather pollen into their pollen sacks, then “fly” into the giant bee hive to start the hive work of the day: Packing pollen and nectar into honey comb, making and fanning honey, feeding and taking care of the larvae, cleaning the hive, protecting the hive, and tending to the Queen.
Children can also don real beekeeper protective gear and work real wooden hives. They can open up several hives, lift out frames and check them for honey production, inspect the nursery to see how their bee population is growing, and find the queen bee laying her eggs.
The beekeepers will have a chance to extract “honey” from the frames, fill lots of honey bear jars full of the golden sweetness, then “sell” the honey at our roadside stand.
This exhibit will address the sting factor: What to do to not get stung, what to do if you do get stung, and why bees don't want to sting!
We will also address what we can do to strive for the continuing health and growth of the worlds’ honey bee population.
This exhibit will have no live bees but will be full of beautiful photos and videos of bees in action. Together we can help ensure our future for our children and our honey bees.
It all starts with education.
